Celebrating Christmas, Just a little Differently
We’re dressed for the festive season. Our trees are up, our Christmas wreaths are on the doors and our nativity scenes are in place. It almost feels like any other Christmas....
However, we all know, that it is a year like no other. So your Cathedral Christmas experience is going to feel a bit different to what you’re used to. We want your time with us to be really enjoyable, but above all, as safe as possible. The Dean of Liverpool, The Very Revd Dr Sue Jones explains,
“We feel so very blessed that so many people love coming to the Cathedral as part of their preparations for Christmas. This year, understandably, it’s more poignant than ever.
“As you can imagine, Christmas is one of our busiest times of the year. We normally welcome from 450 up to 1500 people to one of our Advent services. But things will be a little different this year.
“To keep everyone safe, we have had to look at how many people we can fit into our building. That means we’ve had to limit the number of people we can welcome to each of our services or events.
“We’ve not taken these decisions lightly. Behind the scenes, our teams have worked incredibly hard to make sure we can offer you a special and safe Christmas encounter.
“We appreciate that people may be disappointed that they can’t come to the Cathedral when they’d like to. We hope they’ll understand that keeping everyone safe while they're with us is our top priority. As an area, we’ve made such great strides in reducing infection rates of coronavirus, we don’t want to stop now!
“For anyone not able to come along to the Cathedral for a service, please join us for us one of our online Christmas services. If you’re able to, why not visit us to experience Angel Wings or one of ‘Cake, Carols and Cake’ sessions?
“I’d like to wish everyone in the city and beyond joy, hope and love this Christmas.”
