Did you hear the Cathedral bells on Monday 6th January?

And wondered what was going on? On Monday 6th January our bell ringers entertained some very special guests from ITV's This Morning.
Under the tutelage of Len Mitchell, ITV This morning presenter, Alison Hammond rang ‘Great George’ to mark the change in the TV programme's new start of 10 am.
Len Mitchell is the Past Master of the Cathedral Guild, current Secretary of the Guild and also Liverpool Branch Ringing Master. To complement the ringing of 'Great George' Alison and Len were joined by six ringers from the North West: Chris Webster, Andy Kidd, Michael Allen, David Speechely, Colin Woods, Randle Tinkler.

Len Mitchell, said “It was great to welcome the This Morning team to Liverpool Cathedral and introduce Alison to the art of bell ringing. As many people know, the highest and heaviest peal of bells in the world. While 'Great George', at 15 tonnes (14.5 tons), is bigger than Big Ben and second only to 'Great Paul' of St Paul's Cathedral in London.”

After her bell-ringing shift, Alison paused to admire the rest of the Cathedral. We captured a picture of her in our red Sir Giles Gilbert Scott telephone box and another with her with Dean Sue.
