You’re invited to come and find out at our choir open evening on Monday 25 June starting at 5:20 pm.

The annual search for the city’s most talented young singers is on. Great interest is anticipated, as last year over 90 children auditioned. Stephen Mannings, Liverpool Cathedral’s Director of Choral Outreach encourages parents with boys from school years Y2 to Y5 and girls from Y5 upwards to get in touch soon to book a place for their child.

He said: “We’ve already visited 17 schools across Merseyside, so children get an idea of what to expect when they join our choir. We’re looking for ten boys and girls who have excellent singing voices as well as an all-around good level of musical ability. If your child is chosen, he or she can look forward to a musical and faith-based education that is second to none, financial contributions towards the cost of studying a musical instrument, the chance to sing for television and radio broadcasts and the opportunity to travel abroad on choir tours.”

But joining our choir goes much further than developing children’s musical ability, as Stephen goes on to explain, “The children learn to perform at a world-class standard, conduct themselves professionally and create for themselves a well-rounded CV at a young age which tends to be extremely helpful when applying for universities or jobs in the future. The Cathedral Choir has been in existence for over one hundred years and your child will be following in the footsteps of many hundreds of children have journeyed through this great choral experience.“

On the evening you’ll listen to both the Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs sing choral evensong. Lee Ward, Liverpool Cathedral’s Director of Music will give a presentation. Children will then audition to become choristers starting this September.
