Listen, Relax, Pray at Choral Evensong
We're inviting people to take a pause at the end of their busy days and come to one of the city’s best kept secrets,
Sung at 5:30pm 4 days per week by our world renowned choir, Evensong is open to all to come and listen, relax and if they wish pray or contemplate life at the end of a busy day.
An ancient form of worship, Choral Evensong the words of service are drawn from the Bible. The congregation are not needed to do much as the service is sung by the boys, girls and adults in our world renowned choir accompanied by one of our exceptional organists.
This enables those attending to simply soak in the worship. In the magnificent setting of the cathedral with music rebounding of the architecture you can experience the words and beauty in a new and meaningful way. In a stressed world that is reaching out for meaning
The Dean said “For me Evensong is often my first opportunity in my hectic day to pause and recharge. I love the exquisite beauty of the music and the opportunity to listen as choir and organ offer worship to God. It sets me up for the rest of the evening. I’d love more of the busy, stressed professionals I know across this city to join us and have the chance to listen, relax and pray.”
Many who attend Choral Evensong regularly and have grown to love it, find that the music carries us along and enables us to offer our own prayers and confessions, thanks and praise to God.
During term time Choral Evensong is sung on weekdays (except Wednesdays) at 5:30pm in the cathedral. It’s free to enter and all are welcome. On the weekends it is usually sung at 3pm
