Music at the Met Concert
The junior choirs of Liverpool Cathedral and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral are joining together to sing in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the Metropolitan Cathedral on 20 June 2018.
This is the fifth year of the now annual event which both cathedrals alternate in hosting. Featuring the voices of children aged from six to 14, the choirs will perform choral and instrumental pieces including a medley from current favourite ‘The Greatest Showman’.
Starting at 7 pm, the performance is free to attend and should last no longer than an hour. There will be a retiring collection in aid of Micah Liverpool, a social justice charity set up by Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and St Brides. Micah Liverpool helps people out of poverty. Currently, the charity is working with those who are unemployed or need food or related assistance to tackle hunger in an emergency situation.
The show’s compère, Annamarie Newton, Junior Choir Director & Lay Clerk at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral said: "We are thrilled to be bringing the two choirs together again after a fantastic performance from the children on Pentecost day. There is something for everyone in this concert from liturgical music to contemporary musical theatre and the children are excited to perform within the beautiful acoustics of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel."
Director of Choral Outreach & Voluntary Choirs at Liverpool Cathedral, Stephen Mannings added: “This year’s programme for ‘Music at the Met’ is a mix of traditional and contemporary music. The children have particularly enjoyed learning songs from the soundtrack of ‘The Greatest Showman’. And according to the songwriters, the themes cover inclusion and acceptance which is why they possibly resonate with both our performers and audiences alike.
