Welcome to Liverpool Cathedral and to this e-newssheet on this Sunday when we think of Christ the King. This is the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year and it might be a worthwhile exercise over the next week to think of the past year and ask ourselves what has given us life over the year and what has drained us. Then offer the experiences to God.
Canon Myles’ Retirement
Canon Myles will retire from the Cathedral in his current role in January. We have organised a service to mark his retirement as Canon Precentor and in the same service to launch him as Cathedral Chaplain. The date of the service is January 10. We will also hold a diocesan service later in the year to give thanks to Myles for his ministry in the Diocese and in the Cathedral.
If you would like to contribute to Myles’ retirement gift then please do put your donation in an envelope and mark it Myles’ retirement and pop it into one of the donation boxes. If you prefer to contribute through internet banking then please contact Jayne Bainbridge on 0151 702 7204.
We continue to pray for Myles as he transitions to his new role and his new home.

Pre-booking for Christmas services
We will be offering as many of our special Christmas services as possible, despite the current difficulties. Assuming that the national lockdown ends on 2nd December, these will be: the Nativity Service (6th), Crib and Tree service (13th), and Holly Bough services (19th and 20th), two Christmas Eve services (1.00pm and 3.30pm this year), and the usual Christmas Midnight and Christmas Day services. There will be no Christmas Sequence this year.
Please note: seating capacities for all of these services will be dramatically reduced this year in order to comply with Covid-19 measures. To attend any of our special services you will need to pre-book via EventBrite please.
Tickets on EventBrite will be made available 16 days before each of the services.
Encountering Faith
Next meets on Thursday 26th November, 1-2pm and 7-8pm when we will study Philippians 2:12-18. /getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Supper with the Scriptures
Next meets on Monday 23rd November, 7-8pm when we will study Acts 8. /getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Too Deep for Words: An Advent Course on the Transforming Power of Lectio Divina
Beginning on 26 November 2020, The Revd Mark Waters is running an online course on Lectio Divina each of the Thursdays before Christmas from 7:30pm to 9 pm. The course aims to provide a powerful way of preparing for Christmas through the season of Advent. It will explore the theory behind Lectio Divina as well as allowing for times of practice and discussion. It will also look at how the practice might become an effective and regular part of a prayer life.
There is no charge for the course but please book a place on the following Eventbrite link so that a Zoom link and course papers can be sent to you prior to each session. Please note that you only have to book once for all four sessions:

Micah Liverpool Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign
Micah Liverpool is running its reverse advent calendar campaign again this year. A reverse Advent Calendar uses the same format as an Advent Calendar, but instead of receiving a gift each day throughout Advent you give a gift. On our website we have our reverse Advent Calendar and in each window there is an item that we use in our foodbank parcels.
