Welcome from Dean Sue
Welcome to Liverpool Cathedral E-news. We have entered the season of Remembering. On Sunday we remember the Saints of old and we remember those men and women who are and have been saintly people. On Monday, we remember those who have died. We remember especially our own dearly loved family and friends. On the 11 November, Armistice Day, we pray for and give thanks for all who have died for their country.
A season of remembering is upon us and this season is all the more poignant this year as we remember all who have died from COVID 19.
In the Cathedral on Sunday afternoon at 3pm there is a special service to remember loved ones and I hope even if you cannot come to the Cathedral you will spend time quietly reflecting on the past eight months and all the losses we have experienced.
The Collect for All Souls:
Everlasting God, our maker and redeemer,
grant us, with all the faithful departed,
the sure benefits of your Son’s saving passion and glorious resurrection,
that, in the last day,
when you gather up all things in Christ,
we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Today (Sunday): Special Memories Service: 3pm Sunday 1st November 2020
A service of prayers, music, readings, candlelight and reflection to help us remember in different ways. Remember those who have lost lives during the pandemic and continue to do so; and also remember and give thanks for all that people have done and are doing to support and help others in these challenging times. There will be an opportunity to light candles before and during the service. As with all our Sunday services at this time, booking is necessary – please see the website for details: Liverpool Cathedral. The service will be complemented by voice and video recordings of reflections from those taking part in the service and others (to be hosted on our website).
BLM Lecture – Thursday 12th November 2020, 7.30pm
We are delighted to be hosting a lecture given by Laurence Westgaph, from the International Slavery Museum, entitled “Liverpool – the Church and its links to slavery”. The lecture will be hosted by Bishop Paul and given to a small invited audience in the Lady Chapel. However, it will be live-streamed free via the Cathedral FaceBook page. Micah Donations
Micah Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral’s food bank and social justice charity, has been operating non-stop since the beginning of lockdown. Our team has seen a sharp increase in Food Bank patronage, and has been grateful for the strong support of the Cathedral community. At the moment, UHT milk, cereal, and tinned fish are in short supply. If you are able, food items or financial donations are gratefully accepted at the Constables’ Lodge. Thank you! Micah Liverpool Community Markets at Liverpool Cathedral
Micah Liverpool now runs two community market sessions at Liverpool Cathedral on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am - 2:30pm outside on the Welsford Porch. All are welcome to purchase food and household supplies at heavily reduced prices. Proceeds from the markets will go towards our other Micah programs. Events at Liverpool Cathedral#
The Cathedral Events team are delighted that the Cathedral is now able to offer limited catering services. The Welsford restaurant is now operating in the Well, compliant with all Government and Church of England guidelines. Hot drinks and a limited selection of sandwiches, salads, and treats are available for purchase. Come and enjoy a cuppa while seated in the Well and enjoy the magnificent space to ensure adequate social distancing. Cathedral Shop
Make us your destination for Christmas card purchases this year - along with Cards for Good Causes we have the largest selection of charity cards in one place. Whether you choose to support national or local charities there are many designs to browse through. Some examples of charities being supported this year include British Heart Foundation, Mind, World Wildlife Fund, St. Joseph’s Hospice & the Leprosy Mission. Available now on the mezzanine within the shop.

Donate to Liverpool Cathedral
Please consider making a donation to the Cathedral in these very challenging times. We estimate the financial impact of Covid to be a loss of around £650k. We have received funding of c £400k but it’s still a huge financial challenge for us. Within this we have noticed a significant fall in levels of congregational giving (down by over £20,000 so far this year).
