Welcome from Dean Sue
Welcome to this week’s e-news. We are now in holiday season and our regular choir is having a well-earned rest. So this week’s Sunday worship is minus our beautiful choir, but we do get the opportunity to sing a hymn as a congregation. For those who are anxious we will sing only one hymn at the end of the service and the doors to the Wellsford and Rankin Porches will be open to create ventilation.
Coffee also resumes on Sunday and we will have the opportunity to safely greet and share hospitality with one another. The Wellsford Bistro will provide us with tea and coffee and the usual team will administer it. There will be a collecting bowl on the table in the hope that we can cover the coffee costs so please give as generously as you are able and if you can please ‘pay forward’ a coffee so that someone who cannot pay may participate in the hospitality.
Our aim at all time is to be hospitable and to serve each other so please this week be particularly mindful of those who are anxious with the release of all restrictions.
The collect for St. James’ feast day encourages us to follow the call of Jesus and that call is to follow Jesus and in following Jesus to look out for our neighbour.
Merciful God,
whose holy apostle Saint James,
leaving his father and all that he had,
was obedient to the calling of your Son Jesus Christ
and followed him even to death:
help us, forsaking the false attractions of the world,
to be ready at all times to answer your call without delay;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Summer Choirs
While the Cathedral Choir is on holiday, we will welcome various Cathedral choirs as well as a guest choir to enrich our Summer worship. Today, 25 July at the 10:30am Eucharist, we welcome singers from our own L24 Choir and friends. We will welcome them again on Sunday, 29 August, at the 10:30am Eucharist.
Next Sunday, 1 August, at the 10:30am Eucharist and at 3pm Evensong, we welcome our own Cambiata Choir of young men’s voices.
On Saturday, 7 August at 3pm Evensong and Sunday, 8 August at the 10:30am Eucharist and 3pm Evensong, we will welcome the choir and organist of Bath Abbey.

Encountering Faith – “Revelation revealed”
Our ‘deep dive’ series of Bible Studies will continue on Thursday evenings in July and August, as we look in-depth at Revelation, the last book of the Bible. 7-8.15pm on Zoom. All sessions are stand-alone, and supported with handouts. For more details, please visit: exploring faith.

Patronal Taize Eucharist
Today, 25 August, at 6.00pm in the Church of St. Margaret of Antioch, Princes Road, Bishop Paul will preside and preach at a Taize Eucharist to celebrate the church’s Patronal Festival. All are welcome.
Peace Vigil under the Peace Doves
The Peace Doves have been an inspiration for many of us to reflect on peace and justice following what has been a very challenging 18 months of insecurity. We have faced together the disruptive forces of a global pandemic – many of us have suffered loss, grief, insecurity and illness. Our world has seen unrest and war, our identity as a nation and as individuals has been challenged and we have begun to recognise the necessity to care for creation and rebuild a future for the planet.
We at Liverpool Cathedral want to take some time out to pray for justice and peace. This will be a time for us to share stories and music, hear from activists who have a heart for earth justice, gender justice, world peace, modern slavery and human trafficking, racial justice, unity and ecumenism, disability activism and other aspects of justice and peace.
The evening will be a mix of worship – led by Cathedral Clergy and Franciscan Brothers – prayers and speakers. You can stay for the whole vigil or drop in and spend time praying with us. Cathedral Confirmation Service – Sunday 7th November 2021
We are delighted that the Bishop of Liverpool will be joining us this November to preside at a Confirmation service. Confirmation is the occasion when we can confirm the promises made by us or for us at Baptism in a special service in which the Bishop lays hands on our heads to ask for God’s continuing blessing and anointing of the Holy Spirit. If you are interested in being confirmed, then please speak to Canon Philip, if you are part of the Music Department, or Canon Neal if you are part of the wider Cathedral community.
Community Roll
We are in the process of updating our Community Roll, the list of members of the Cathedral, including those who live further away but who retain an active interest. It can also include people who join us on-line for worship, discipleship and other activities. It has been a very valuable resource for the clergy through lockdown, to help us keep in touch. Peace Doves
We are currently hosting a major art installation, Peace Doves, crafted by artist Peter Walker, until the end of August. Over 13,000 white paper doves have been hung from the Well ceiling, each with prayers written on by worshippers and visitors. The installation is accompanied by the art installation, Peace to Ourselves, a large dove laid out on the Memorial Chapel floor, on which all are invited to place (provided) buttons in memory of a loved one. A Choir for Every Age
We are recruiting singers to our choirs: Cathedral Junior Choir (ages 6-11), Gilbert Scott Singers (11-18) and Liverpool64 (SATB choir for 18+). The Junior Choir and Gilbert Scott Singers are rehearsing in-person again, and Liverpool64 should be returning imminently. Micah Liverpool
Staff and volunteers at Micah wish to say thank you to the Cathedral congregation for their support throughout a quite demanding spring. At the moment we’re running low on UHT milk, toiletries, dry cereal, and pasta sauce. Donations can be received at the Constables’ Lodge or in the clear plastic boxes across from the Shop. Soon we’ll be able to welcome new volunteers once restrictions lift; anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to email nelson.pike@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk for more information and an application form.
