This week’s News from Liverpool Cathedral – a Place of Encounter

Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 20th June 2021.
Welcome from Dean Sue
A very warm welcome to Liverpool Cathedral e-news. After the disappointment of the Prime Ministers decision to keep restrictions as they are the Cathedral continues to operate in a Covid secure way. It is great to see people in the Cathedral and to offer the space for people to reflect.
Today’s Gospel reading highlights the fear of the disciples. For many the fear of Covid is still very tangible and as numbers continue to rise we at the Cathedral wish to offer people the peace that Christ talks about in our Gospel reading. We want to be a place of stillness where people can bring their fears and we wish to be a place where people find peace.
God our Saviour
look on this wounded world
in pity and in power;
hold us fast to your promise of peace
won for us by your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Dean Sue

Thanksgiving Service for the Ministry of Canon Myles
Next Sunday we are holding a service of thanksgiving for the ministry of Canon Myles as Canon Precentor. The original service was postponed because of Covid restrictions, but now we are able to publically mark and give thanks for all that Canon Myles has done in this Cathedral as Precentor, Vice-Dean and Acting Dean. Please join us as Canon Myles will preside and Archdeacon Jennifer McKenzie will preach at the service before she leaves the Diocese of Liverpool at the end of July. A Choir for Every Age

The Junior Choir and Gilbert Scott Singers are rehearsing in-person again, and Liverpool64 should be returning imminently. To discuss joining a choir, email: stephen.mannings@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
The Cathedral Cycle Route
The Cathedral Cycle Route, linking the Anglican Cathedrals in the UK, has been launched with a nationwide cycle relay. On 6th July, a team of cyclists from Liverpool Cathedral will take the relay onwards to Manchester Cathedral, following the East Lancs along the 35 mile route. We have space for around 6 more cyclists to join our team. We’re recommending potential cyclists own a hybrid or road bike and have a fairly decent level of fitness, although we’re not aiming to break any speed records! If you would like to cycle with us for this event, please email stephen.mannings@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
Cathedral Shop
We have a great range of gifts supporting the Peace Doves installation. The peace dove hanging decorations and the dove ceramic t light domes are popular with our visitors.
We also have some new T lights with a Liverpool design, a perfect gift for a special occasion.
We’re here to help in any way we can – open online for you to browse 24/7 at www.cathedralshop.com. If you have a specific request that we can help you with, please feel free to email us - shop@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
All profits from the shop directly support the ever increasing work of Liverpool Cathedral.
