Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 30th May 2021.

Welcome from Dean Sue

Welcome to this week’s e-news as we celebrate Trinity Sunday. This feast is the most difficult one to understand as we try to work out how God can be one in three. For me the best description of the Trinity is seen through Rublev’s Icon of the Trinity also known as the Hospitality of Abraham. This icon can be seen in the Cathedral by the Font. The icon depicts three angels who visited Abraham. Each angel is carefully robed with much symbolism and what I like is that they each look to each other and bless each other including you the observer.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: We beseech thee, that thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.

Peace Doves

We are currently hosting a major art installation, Peace Doves, crafted by artist Peter Walker, until the end of August. Over 13,000 white paper doves have been hung from the Well ceiling, each with prayers written on by worshippers and visitors. The installation is accompanied by the art installation, Peace to Ourselves, a large dove laid out on the Memorial Chapel floor, on which all are invited to place (provided) buttons in memory of a loved one. In addition, we welcome back the Angel Wings projection in the Derby Transcept. For more information, please visit this link to the website: /about-us/news/peace_doves_artwork_to_be_.

Thanksgiving Service for the Ministry of Canon Myles

On June 27 at 10.30 there will be a service of thanksgiving for the ministry of Canon Myles as Canon Precentor. The original service was postponed because of Covid restrictions, but now we are able to publically mark and give thanks for all that Canon Myles has done in this Cathedral as Precentor, Vice-Dean and Acting Dean.
