Welcome from Dean Sue
Welcome to this week’s e-news for the Fifth Sunday after Trinity. It was really good to celebrate Canon Myles’ ministry among us last week and to welcome Archdeacon Jennifer as our preacher. We look forward to sharing tea and coffee and to celebrate further with Myles once pandemic regulations allow.
It will be good to welcome the Cathedral Cycle route participants this week. The candle burning near the Baptistery travels along the route between the Cathedrals as the cyclists continue on. Do see Stephen’s notice below if you’d like more information.
It is also good to see Canon Bob back in the Cathedral after his study leave. Please do say hello when you see him!
The prayer Canon Leslie has provided for today speaks of traveling light. As we continue through these days of pandemic, may we remember Jesus’ call to us to move lightly through the world as we follow him.
Lord Jesus Christ,
you taught your followers
to travel light in your service.
Help us to follow in their footsteps,
that we are not weighed down
with the baggage of life;
for you are our God.

Cathedral Charities for 2021
Every year Liverpool Cathedral donates a portion of its investment and rental income to charities selected by the Cathedral Company Committee.
If there is a charity you think the Company Committee should consider for a donation, please give the name of the charity, its contact details and a brief description of its work in writing to a member of the Committee. Today, Sunday, 4 July, is the last day to nominate the charities for 2021. The final list will then be circulated to Committee members and considered at the Company Committee meeting on 8 July.
The members of the Committee are: Roy Redman, Dianne Rothwell, Michael Hilton, Anthony Hannay, Fred Myerscough, Nadine Daniel, Jim Johnson, and Gratten Williams.

I would like to express my very deep thanks to Dean Sue, Canon Philip, our wonderful musicians and to all of you for a wonderful celebration of my retirement last Sunday, for kind words, lovely music and generous gifts. Even though we could not sing together nor share a social gathering afterwards, it was a heartfelt occasion, and one which will live long in my memory. I continue to enjoy being a member of the Cathedral Company and playing a part in the clergy team. Thank you all so much.

Exploring the Sunday Gospel at Home

Supper with the Scriptures – “Acting on Acts”
Our informal Bible studies continue on Monday evenings with a series looking at Acts chapters 12-15. We meet at 7-8pm on Zoom. For more details, please visit: /getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Encountering Faith – “Revelation revealed”
Our ‘deep dive’ series of Bible Studies will continue on Thursday evenings in July and August, as we look in-depth at Revelation, the last book of the Bible. 7-8.15pm on Zoom. Clothing request
One of our Cathedral members volunteers with a local charity that helps people who have no place to call ‘home’. They are working with a hard-to-house gent who is 6’6” and of slim build. They are looking for donations of clothing for him, please: fleeces, tee-shirts, cargo pants and the like. If you think that you could help, please contact Canon Neal.

Peace Doves
We are currently hosting a major art installation, Peace Doves, crafted by artist Peter Walker, until the end of August. Over 13,000 white paper doves have been hung from the Well ceiling, each with prayers written on by worshippers and visitors. The installation is accompanied by the art installation, Peace to Ourselves, a large dove laid out on the Memorial Chapel floor, on which all are invited to place (provided) buttons in memory of a loved one. New Cathedral Choristers Required
We are looking for boys and girls to join our famed cathedral choir. We welcome boys from year 5 and girls from year 7. The next audition date is next Sunday July 11th from 4pm in the Lady Chapel. Please email christopher.newton@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk for further details.
A Choir for Every Age
We are recruiting singers to our choirs: Cathedral Junior Choir (ages 6-11), Gilbert Scott Singers (11-18) and Liverpool64 (SATB choir for 18+). The Junior Choir and Gilbert Scott Singers are rehearsing in-person again, and Liverpool64 should be returning imminently. The Cathedral Cycle Route
The Cathedral Cycle Route, linking the Anglican Cathedrals in the UK, has been launched with a nationwide cycle relay. On 6th July, a team of cyclists from Liverpool Cathedral will take the relay onwards to Manchester Cathedral, following the East Lancs along the 35 mile route. We have space for around 6 more cyclists to join our team. We’re recommending potential cyclists own a hybrid or road bike and have a fairly decent level of fitness, although we’re not aiming to break any speed records! If you would like to cycle with us for this event, please email stephen.mannings@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
Micah Liverpool
Staff and volunteers at Micah wish to say thank you to the Cathedral congregation for their support throughout a quite demanding spring. At the moment we’re running low on UHT milk, toiletries, and rice. Donations can be received at the Constables’ Lodge or in the clear plastic boxes across from the Shop. Soon we’ll be able to welcome new volunteers once restrictions lift; anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to email nelson.pike@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk for more information and an application form.
